Okay, So How Does It Work?

Whitening Toothpaste
Whitening toothpaste works by using mildly abrasive chemicals to remove any existing surface stains. They do NOT contain bleach and while some of them may contain polishing agents that help to make teeth cleaner (and therefore whiter). Be sure to ALWAYS check for the American Dental Association seal of approval.
Toothpastes may help somewhat, but they will NOT whiten your teeth nearly as much as many of the other whitening methods.

Whitening Strips
Teeth Whitening strips were first made to replace mouth guards and act as a bleaching solution. They are much more comfortable than a mouth tray because, basically, all they consist of is a sticky tape that you apply on your front teeth. Whitening strips are usually worn twice daily for a half an hour each time.
Teeth whitening strips are available both over-the-counter and through your dentist. The strips that you can obtain from a dentist office will typically contain a stronger concentration of peroxide however.

Brush-On Whitening
Brush on whitening gels are peroxide based gels that can be applied with a small brush onto the front teeth.

Teeth Whitening Gel Kits
Teeth whitening gel kits can be purchased over the counter and are very similar to the Dental Supervision Gel Treatment. The difference between the two is that with a teeth whitening gel kit, you get to do everything from the comforts of your own home.
This method works by putting concentrated peroxide gel in a mouth tray and then leaving it on for a certain amount of time. Look for a kit with a tray that will form to your teeth or you may have find yourself having some very inconsistent results. This method of whitening is very affordable AND efficient — making it quite an enticing option!

Dental Office Whitening
Dental office teeth whitening usually involves gel being directly applied to the teeth and accelerated with either heat, special lights, lasers or a combination of all three. Dental treatments will typically last 30 to 60 minutes. Sometimes more than one appointment is required.
A dentist office bleaching typically produces the quickest results so if you find yourself with an upcoming event that you’ll want your teeth whitened for then the dentist office based treatment is probably your best bet. Dental Supervision Gel Treatment One of the most popular methods of teeth whitening, the dental supervision gel treatment gives you a little break in the cost department but doesn’t sacrifice enjoying the guidance of a trained professional. You’ll get a tooth tray that is custom-made for you which will help to get every area of your teeth as white as possible. The gel used is in this treatment is usually carbamide peroxide. It works MUCH more efficiently than the hydrogen peroxide which can be found in most of the cheaper methods. The custom tray will also come in handy later on when you need to touch up your teeth.
